Shall I take a Stand?

Dennis L. Scroggins

Standing at the forefront,
on the hottest battle strand,
I looked for those who usually stood
but alas they turned and ran!

My strength was spent,
my friends were gone,
the time to stand had come!
Our enemies pressed on every side,
and everything went wrong!

The saddest truth at last I learned,
All die if they are brave!
Where stand the crowds
that cheered us on,
to fight and free the slave?

Our enemy stands in dread array,
his weapons sharp and cruel,
But nothing melts a heart away,
like those that play the fool!

Halfhearted soldiers of the Cross,
they sing of grace with pride,
but take no stand,
nor soil their hands,
to help us stem the tide!

"Yet I must fight, if I would win"
I sing with strength and pride!
But "Is It I" who follows Christ,
to bring them to His side?

We seek a higher wisdom,
a wisdom bright and true,
but to men we go to seek it,
and it never saves the fool!

Within the halls of Glory,
a mighty army stands,
but those that sell the Savior,
will never see that land!

As it was in the beginning,
so it shall be in the end,
"Good Intentions" dukk the senses
of those that just pretend!

"But unto us who are saved!"

Dennis L. Scroggins

 1 Corinthians 1:18

Paul was very plain about the ability of individual Christians to know if they are living in a saved condition.   1 John 5:13, should hammer this point home to every Christian!   It is amazing to talk with those that have been Christians for so many years that have never really come to a concrete realization of their own spiritual growth, or the lack thereof!  2 Peter 3:17-18; Ephesians 4:11-16

Hebrews 5:11-14, speaks without reservation to Christians concerning their lack of spiritual growth.  They are rebuked for not being teachers by now, but are in need of someone to instruct them in the first principles of Christ’s teaching.   It would indeed be hard to make an application of 2 John 9-11, to any given situation inside or outside the church, if you were untaught and without the spiritual tools to make practical applications from the teachings of Jesus.

“But by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil!”  should be the utmost goal in the minds of those that want to go to Heaven when they die.

Matthew 7:24-29   Note “He that doeth!”   Jesus is not talking about “heart felt” religion, but rather living, active, obedient faith!    We are speaking of an obedient faith based in an understandable word that takes its stand on absolute truth!

Paul made this point very clear by expressing to us where the power of God can really be found.   Romans 1:16-18  “For I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation, to every man that believes...”

 Consider the following poem:

Up on the Cross, our Lord stayed and died.
No one came close, or stood by His side!

Down at the Cross, His enemies played,
gambled His clothes, and their souls away!

Under the Cross, His blood soaked the clay,
Over His Cross, royal names were displayed!

Christ in the center, thieves by His side,
All around joking, His fame they would chide!

In darkness and fear, His friends would stand near,
No offer to help, or speak words that were dear!

In sorrow and pain, He suffered the strain,
Out of His anguish in Truth He does Reign!

Seeking His Glory, His Cross we can see,
Under His Banner, our lives He set free!

He promised for certain a glorious Crown,
To all that obey Him, and put Him first now!

Christ our Redeemer, the Lamb that was slain,
Lip service an offering that worships in vain!

His Cross for the masses, His story is bold,
but those who ignore Him, will sell out their souls!
