III. COMPROMISE IN
KING SOLOMON'S LIFE:
- Unlawful Marriages - 1 Kings 11:1-3.
- Mixed marriages - Neh. 13:26.
- Marriage to unbeliever is not sin (1 Cor. 7:12-14),
- But, additional challenges & temptations exist (1 Pet. 3:1).
- Multiplied wives - Deut. 17:17.
- Application:
- Know the value of a godly partner! (cf. 1 Pet. 3:2; 1 Cor. 7:15).
- Don't compromise Christ's marriage law! (Matt. 19:4-6, 9)
- False Worship - 1 Kings 11:5-8.
- Can take the form of direct participation - 11:5, 7.
- Can take the form of encouraging it in others - 11:8.
- Can take the form of changing the action of worship while trying to
keep the same God (1 Kgs. 12:28-33).
- Application:
- Worshipping other gods (Col. 3:5).
- By leaving the impression that any worship of God is acceptable
(Jn. 4:24).
- By supporting those who practice false worship (2 Jn. 9-10).
- Compromise Causes:
- The wrath of God is stirred up - 1 Kgs. 11:9.
- The loss of God's blessings - 1 Kgs. 11:11.
- It leads to still more compromise - 1 Kgs. 12:28-33; Gal. 5:9.
CONCLUSION:
- Compromise may be fine in politics & in solving disputes between two
enemies. But when it comes to honoring & obeying the God of heaven &
earth, it is deadly to our souls!
- Jude 3; 2 Tim. 2:3 - Contend earnestly for the faith and endure as
good soldiers of the cross!
